About Sharon
I was always an artistic kid- doing something with my hands like wire sculpture, craft projects and sewing or knitting. After finishing the prestigious Boston University, College of Fine Arts with a BFA in Sculpture in 1976, I had gotten swept up in the new concepts of body-mind-spirit that were just coming to light. I could sculpt a body, build an armature (a skeletal support for rendering muscles in clay), knew all the anatomy and began to question “What is this body really about?”.
My inquiry led me to understanding myself through getting bodywork- massage, chiropractic and polarity. It led me straight to Rolfing®. I got Rolfed when I was 22 years old and knew in my second of the ten sessions that this was what I was going to do for the rest of my life. In 1981, after two years of prerequisite work, a lengthy application and a year in training at The Rolf® Institute now known as The Dr. Ida Rolf Institute® in Boulder, Colorado, I was Certified in Basic Rolfing®. After many three and six day workshops and Rolfing® Movement Training, I did my Advanced Certification in 1988. What a journey- what a wonderful vocation! Thank goodness IT found ME and has been the source of much joy in my life. Participating in a person’s change and growth is an amazing way to spend my days.
Volunteering is the second most important thing in my life. My latest volunteer stints include being a Pet Partners® Therapy Team at Hartford Hospital with my two wonderful dogs every other Wednesday at The Gray Cancer Center. We have been bringing smiles to the patients, staff and visitors since 2011. I have been a Mentor in the West Hartford Schools also since 2011, for the last two years befriending a young girl who needs some extra attention. I am currently on the Development Committee at the Connecticut Humane Society since animal welfare is very important to me.
I love to design and care for my gardens, create beautiful interiors and hike every Sunday with my pups, their friends and their people. I have made sculptural jewelry for over twenty years, love to cook, do seasonal long distance kayaking and enjoy jogging with my dogs. I invite you to inquire about Rolfing® and see what lies ahead for YOU in your quest for better health and well-being.
